Foodways Gardens - Preparations and Planting
At Fort Selden Historic Site
4/18/26, Saturday
10:00am - 12:00pm
Join Ranger Mike for a conversation about how to create your own garden at home, and then get your hands dirty in helping us plant various fruits and vegetables for our Foodways Garden. This year’s garden will be focused on Indigenous agriculture, specifically, corn, squash, and beans grown together, known as the Three Sisters. We will also plant the chile garden which will be used to continue telling the story of New Mexican agriculture.
Did you know that when the mesquite bush buds, this a good indicator to start planting the garden? It’s nature’s way of telling us that we’re past our last freeze and can start planting. Learn local gardening tips like this, as well as how to make the most of spring in the Mesilla Valley.
Admission $5 for adults and free for children 16 and younger.
