Fort Stanton Live

At Fort Stanton Historic Site

Held annually on the second Saturday in July in partnership with Fort Stanton Inc., Fort Stanton Live brings costumed interpreters from the Civil War and Indian Wars era to the Fort for a variety of activities. Visitors can expect cavalry, infantry, and artillery demonstrations (no cannons or cap guns will be fired), presentations from writers and historians, tours, old-time games for kids, food vendors, and live performances from period-appropriate bands.

In addition to these activities, monthly Fort Stanton Living History programming will be held in conjuction with this event, including site tours, children’s craft projects, and more.

Schedule of Fort Stanton Living History Activities:

10 AM: Living History begins

11:30 AM: Tour of the WWII German Internment Camp and the Old Army Cemetery

11:30 AM- 12:45 PM: Vintage Games

12:45-1:45 PM: Lunch break for Living History actors

3 PM: Living History ends

The New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs Wonders on Wheels mobile museum will be onsite Saturday, July 13 with an exciting new exhibit called "Growing New Mexico" traveling from the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum.
