Program Change: No Horno Firing for Horno Pizza Cookoff

At Fort Selden Historic Site
1/18/25, Saturday
10:00am - 12:00pm

Fort Selden Historic Site

Due to predicted weather conditions and high winds, Fort Selden staff will NOT be able to fire the outdoor adobe horno/oven or cook pizzas for this program. However, Ranger Mike will still offer a talk about horno cooking, including how to make pizzas, and will also offer a guided tour of the site. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please don’t bring pizza-making supplies to the program as suggested.

Join staff at Fort Selden Historic Site as they fire up the horno, or outdoor adobe oven and invite visitors to cook pizza. Did you know that an adobe horno can get up to around 900 degrees!? With that kind of temperature, a pizza cooks in just a couple of minutes. Staff encourage participants to bring their own pizza to cook. Visitors can bring ingredients and make their own fresh pizza or bring a favorite frozen pizza. This will be the perfect opportunity to learn more about horno cooking and how versatile these ovens are. Staff and volunteers will be on site to assist visitors in cooking their pizza and will answer questions people may have regarding horno cooking and cooking pizza. This is a family-friendly event, so all ages are welcome. Note: Firing the horno is subject to weather and fire restrictions. This program is included as part of general admission of $5 per adult. Children 16 years old and younger are free. NM Disabled Veterans are free.
