Lincoln Lecture Series: Forgotten History of Buffalo Soldiers

At Lincoln Historic Site
10/5/24, Saturday
1:00pm - 2:00pm

Lincoln Historic Site

Join us for our Lincoln Lecture Series, held on the first Saturday of every month from May to October at 1 p.m. These lectures delve into fascinating topics from guest lecturers throughout the state and take place in the iconic San Juan Bautista Church.

This month’s program is by Oliver Horn, Ph.d., Regional Site Manager at Lincoln and Fort Stanton Historic Sites. Horn will tell the forgotten history of Fort Stanton’s Buffalo Soldiers. The site was recently added to the National Park Service’s Reconstruction Era National Historic Network, which recognizes sites and programs throughout the country that honor the legacy of the Black community. Fort Stanton joins the network in honor of its history as the home to a unit of the 125th Colored Infantry (1866-67), and later Buffalo Soldiers of the 9th Cavalry Regiments (1875-81). The site joins 107 listings in the Network spread across 28 states and Washington, D.C. Fort Stanton is the only member of the network located in the Southwest.

Lincoln Lecture Series is included with admission of $7/adults and free to children 16 years and younger.
