Event Details

Held annually in partnership with the friend’s group, Fort Stanton Inc., Fort Stanton Live brings costumed interpreters from the nineteenth century to the Fort for a variety of activities, historical presentations, old-time games, and performances. Visitors can expect infantry and artillery demonstrations, presentations from writers and historians, quilters, weavers, potters, site tours, food vendors, and live performances from period-appropriate bands. Dancers from Mescalero Apache Tribe will perform on the parade grounds, and other members from Mescalero will serve Indian tacos and display arts and crafts. Originally planned for July, it was rescheduled to Sept. 28 due to fire conditions in the Lincoln County area earlier this summer. Fort Stanton is excited to welcome visitors back to the area!

Celebrate the reopening of the newly rehabilitated Nurses Quarters, with a medical tape, a.k.a. ribbon, cutting. See new exhibits inside the Nurses Quarters and watch a slideshow of historic images. Kids can participate in nurse and medical-themed children’s activities throughout the day. In honor of the nurses who once worked at the Fort, a blood drive will be hosted from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. with the Vitalant bloodmobile, and cookies and juice will be provided by the friends group.

Admission for Fort Stanton Live is $10 for adults and $5 for children 16 and younger. Tickets for Fort Stanton Live are available for purchase online now! We encourage you to speed through admission by buying tickets in advance. We will still honor our many free admission categories: Culture Pass Holders, Blue Star Families, New Mexico Museum Foundation Members, New Mexico Disabled Veterans, and Foster Families. Those qualifying for free admission must pick up their tickets on the same day.
