Volunteer Acequia Cleaning
At Los Luceros Historic Site
3/18/23, Saturday
It’s that time of year again! Los Luceros Historic Site is looking for volunteer help to clean along the acequia madre. Like the other farms along the acequia, the Site is obligated to help clean the acequia madre every year in order to get ready to turn the ditch on in mid-to-late March.
Trash, tumbleweeds, dirt, and other debris all need to be removed from the ditch before it can be turned on. Also, this is the time of year to address the roots growing out of the sides of the ditches.
Members of the community who would like to help Los Luceros clean the ditch are welcome to come! The ditch cleaning begins at 8am and goes until the early afternoon. Please bring some gardening loppers, large shears, and work gloves.
If you plan on volunteering, please RSVP with Rebecca Ward, the Site’s Instructional Coorindator. She can be reached at 505-470-0675, and rebecca.ward@dca.nm.gov.
